The SMT Process Engineer will be instrumental in refining and overseeing the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) manufacturing processes to enhance operational efficiency and product quality within our small electronic manufacturing firm specializing in PCB contract manufacturing. This position requires a meticulous and experienced engineer capable of collaborating within a fast-paced production setting to spearhead process enhancements and effectively address any technical challenges. The role involves not just maintaining existing processes but also innovating new techniques and strategies to meet the evolving demands of the industry, particularly within the niche of PCB manufacturing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Program, Debug, Setup, Operate and Maintain: Pick & Place equipment, Reflow Ovens, Screen Printers, Solder Paste Inspection, and Wave Soldering equipment.
Develop and maintain machine programs and work instructions.
Train, mentor, and support production staff to ensure thorough understanding and adherence to process standards and protocols.
Troubleshoot root cause and document defective product or process failures. This includes utilizing troubleshooting tools such as X-Ray, Oscilloscope, Multimeter, Power Supply, and Microscope.
Evaluate customer products for quality during manufacturing, take appropriate actions to resolve issues, and ensure the product is produced according to developed procedures and customer specifications.
Ensure a smooth process flow, maximizing volume and efficiency while committing to exacting specs and uncompromised quality. Work with other key departments to ensure proper technique, staffing, training and
Conduct regular process audits, inspections, and risk assessments to ensure continued compliance with industry standards and internal policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
BS degree or equivalent experience in electronic contract manufacturing
Experience with programming SMT Equipment, a strong understanding of SMT technology
Knowledge of how to work and operate SMT placement machines.
Understanding how to read drawings, and be able to create comprehensive work instruction
SMT products, programming, and Juki equipment knowledge
Deep knowledge of IPC standards including J-Standards, AS9100, experienced in IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards, six sigma and industrial ergonomics
