Summary: The Asphalt Luteman assists with the application of asphalt on highway, roadways, and parking lots.
Duties and Responsibilities: * Distribute and take asphalt material used in construction, repair, and resurfacing, * Raking, sweeping, and lining out the road, as well as working alongside the tractor, mill, paver, and the screed, * Match and finish freshly made asphalt paving joints, * Finish surfaces by smoothing and tamping asphalt material to the proper grade and thickness to properly adhere material to road surface, * Prepare road surfaces for hot asphalt material, * Understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet the standards of the project, * Repair utility cuts by removing temporary material and replacing with permanent hot asphalt material, * Evens and adjusts surface irregularities, restores surface finish, spreads asphalt to proper grade and finishes before compaction, * Assist with traffic control, barricades, cones, etc., * Must wear proper attire at all times including PPE, * May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends, * Additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements: * One or more years of asphalt raking experience preferred, * High School diploma, GED or equivalent, * Valid unrestricted driver's license with a good driving history preferred, * Must be a reliable/trustworthy team player, * Maintain good attendance and safety record, * Knowledge of the paving process and willingness to learn multiple tasks of the paving operation, * Ability to follow the supervisor and other crewmembers, * Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.
Working Conditions: * Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds continuously throughout the workday, * Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, and twist, throughout the workday, * This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces, * This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time and the constant use of hands and arms, * This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (e.g., glasses, contact lenses), * Performing strenuous work for extended periods in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, and other inclement weather conditions, * Work may be performed in environments with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and moving equipment.
* Note: This position is considered Safety-Sensitive, and therefore subject to various schedule and unscheduled screenings for controlled substances.
