The Control Systems Engineer will work as a member of a team of process engineers who support problem solving across the rolling department, with the focused objective of applying the principles of data analytics toward diagnosing and eliminating equipment and process problems. This role will encompass the following dimensions:
Develop knowledge of equipment, control systems, and the process as a whole, specializing in the ability to understand and interpret the associated process data.
Study and quantify normal patterns of process behavior as a basis for detecting outliers, process shifts and unusual operating conditions.
Develop metrics and process performance indicators that provide early warning of equipment degradation and impending failure. Prioritize and schedule appropriate preemptive actions with maintenance planners.
Apply first principles models and simulations to remove the effects of known sources of variation from the data, thereby exposing the underlying anomalies and equipment problems.
Apply data visualization approaches that naturally reveal the structure and behaviors of the process, giving insights to operators, maintenance personnel, and other engineers.
Interpret alarms and associated data to help guide maintenance technicians in root cause analysis, with the goal of reducing mean time to repair.
Support the plant in strategic business improvement activities that will focus on improving the Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Productivity with a results-oriented approach.
Coordinate efforts on process improvements, and support and lead the execution of problem-solving efforts related to process and machine improvements.
Although the person in this position works primarily daytime shifts M-F, it is expected that they work off-shifts as needed to support the functions of this role.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Manufacturing Engineering from an accredited institution.
Minimum of 1 internship, co-op or other applicable work experience.
This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two years of manufacturing experience in the metals or similar industry.
The ability to identify and resolve process-related problems.
Strong business, technical, computer, and analytical skills (from educational background and/or manufacturing experience).
Understanding of computer programming with ability to interpret C code.
Experience with: PI system, Minitab, R, JMP, Matlab, SQL or related tools
The ability to engage with employees at all levels of the organization.
Experience with the application of lean manufacturing principles in a manufacturing setting.
Experience working in a union environment.
