About the Nurse Practitioner Role:

The Nurse Practitioner at our Prince Frederick office will play a critical role in delivering comprehensive orthopedic care to patients across all age groups. This position involves assessing, diagnosing, and managing musculoskeletal conditions, ensuring patients receive evidence-based treatment plans tailored to their individual needs. The Nurse Practitioner will collaborate closely with orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes and facilitate recovery. Additionally, this role requires educating patients and their families about injury prevention, treatment options, and rehabilitation processes. Ultimately, the Nurse Practitioner will contribute to enhancing the quality of life for patients through compassionate, expert orthopedic care within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state of Maryland.

Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.

Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP).

Demonstrated clinical experience in orthopedics or musculoskeletal care.

Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in Orthopedic Nursing (ONC) or Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner specialty.

Experience working in outpatient orthopedic clinics or surgical settings.

Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems specific to orthopedic practice.

Additional training or certification in musculoskeletal ultrasound or injection therapy.

Strong background in patient education and rehabilitation protocols.

Responsibilities:

Conduct thorough patient assessments including history taking, physical examinations, and diagnostic testing related to orthopedic conditions.

Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with musculoskeletal injuries or chronic orthopedic disorders.

Prescribe medications, order and interpret diagnostic imaging, and perform minor procedures within the scope of practice.

Collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers to coordinate patient care and follow-up.

Provide patient education on injury prevention, post-treatment care, and rehabilitation strategies to promote optimal recovery.

Skills:

The required orthopedic skills enable the Nurse Practitioner to accurately assess and manage a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, ensuring precise diagnosis and effective treatment. Proficiency in clinical examination techniques and interpretation of diagnostic imaging is essential for daily patient evaluations. Preferred skills such as expertise in orthopedic procedures and familiarity with EMR systems enhance efficiency and quality of care delivery. Communication skills are vital for educating patients and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive care plans.
