While many positions at Coinbase are remote-first, this role requires part-time in-person engagement throughout the year. Team and company offsite gatherings occur multiple times a year to encourage collaboration and alignment, and your active participation is anticipated and supported.

Data Science plays a vital role in Coinbase's products and decision-making processes. We collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and Design teams to deepen our understanding of user behaviors and influence the product roadmap. With expertise in experimentation, analytics, and advanced modeling, we deliver insights that directly impact the company's bottom line.

We are currently seeking a Lead Data Scientist to join the Coinbase Developer Platform (CDP) and Stablecoins team. CDP is the premier platform for building decentralized applications or integrating crypto into existing apps, and our stablecoins team is devoted to enabling instant global payments. We need a product-focused Data Scientist who can establish metrics for developer tools, develop user funnels, and guide product decisions based on user interaction data. You may also explore stablecoin economics or fund flows within the ecosystem and assist in creating programs to enhance stablecoin liquidity worldwide. By leveraging proprietary and public data, you will generate analyses and dashboards while working closely with leaders at the forefront of decentralized app development and DeFi.

What You Will Do:

Conduct thorough analyses and explorations of ambiguous business problems, culminating in insights and recommendations that inform the team's decisions.

Take ownership of a wide range of data and metrics, overseeing everything from core logging to the presentation of data visualizations.

Lead code reviews, offer expertise in SQL and Python, and create well-maintained ETL processes.

Uphold high standards for statistical rigor, ensuring that we execute experiments and causal analyses that inspire confidence among stakeholders.

What We Look For:

A BA/BS in a quantitative field (such as Math, Stats, Physics, or Computer Science) with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD in a quantitative discipline with 3+ years of relevant experience.

Proven experience in steering impactful data science projects that address complex, ambiguous issues.

Capability to influence external stakeholders by effectively translating data insights into compelling narratives.

Practical expertise in applying advanced modeling frameworks to real-world business challenges.

Professional experience with SQL and Python.

Experience in developing digital products within an iterative framework.

Pay Transparency Notice: Based on your work location, the target annual *base *salary for this position can range between the amounts outlined below. Full-time compensation packages from Coinbase also include bonuses, equity options, and benefits (such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)).

Base salary range: $180,370 - $212,200 USD. Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, in addition to benefits.
