Job Responsibilities
This role involves significant travel, requiring candidates to be available for travel 3-4 months at a time.
Operate a test vehicle or detector car both on and off railroad tracks under various road conditions.
Conduct vehicle inspections and set up necessary equipment.
Record and interpret data displayed on computer monitors.
Perform maintenance and repairs on the vehicle and detector carriage, which includes crawling under the vehicle in confined spaces and working in awkward positions.
Ascend and descend the vehicle using ladders or steps, and perform ground examinations of rails.
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory, including safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hard hats, and safety vests. Additional PPE, such as safety goggles and gloves, may be required when handling vehicle fluids.
Annual training in Road Worker Safety is required.
Sign-On Bonus
Eligible for a $1,000 sign-on bonus after 60 days of successful employment.
Working Conditions
All duties will be performed in the field, which may involve extreme weather conditions.
Safety Protocols
It is essential to adhere to all company safety policies to maintain a safe working environment. Any safety violations or faults should be promptly reported to a supervisor.
Essential Functions
Operate: Drive the detector car, assist crew members with measurements and recordings, and operate test equipment on the rail line.
Identify: Conduct visual checks of the car and track conditions, as well as test data and equipment functionality.
Communicate: Clearly convey information to crew members regarding instructions, safety rules, and any obstructions on the rail, utilizing radios and intercoms effectively.
Maintain: Inspect and care for all vehicle components and keep the interior and exterior clean, while performing regular maintenance.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to maintain various physical postures under the vehicle, including maneuvering in cramped spaces.
Capability to climb steps or stairs frequently, with expectations of walking on uneven surfaces.
Perform physical tasks involving grip, reach, and visual acuity, including the ability to identify signal colors.
Driving Responsibilities:
Ensure safe driving practices and compliance with DOT regulations.
Maintain records according to DOT requirements and customer procedures.
Maintenance Duties:
Follow safety protocols during maintenance, assisting field maintenance personnel as needed.
Check equipment periodically and report any issues to the Chief Operator.
Ensure cleanliness and organization of the detector car.
Customer Interaction:
Collaborate diplomatically with railway personnel and address any complaints swiftly.
Input necessary data into the DCS reporting system.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
Valid CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to perform basic mechanical tasks.
Capability to lift and carry up to 85 lbs, with assistance for objects over 100 lbs.
