Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Azure SQL Database Administrator with strong expertise in cloud database management, production support, performance tuning, and disaster recovery. The primary focus of this role is administering Azure SQL environments while ensuring high availability, security, and optimal performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Azure SQL Administration
- Manage and support Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and related Azure cloud database services
- Monitor performance, workload, and resource utilization using Azure Monitor, Query Store, and other native Azure tools
- Implement Azure security best practices, including firewalls, encryption, auditing, and role-based access control (RBAC)
- Manage automated backups, geo-replication, failovers, and long-term retention policies
- Support deployments, schema changes, and data migrations within Azure environments
2. Production Support & Monitoring
- Provide 24/7 production support on a rotational basis
- Conduct daily health checks and proactively identify performance or capacity issues
- Monitor database availability, integrity, and performance using industry-standard tools
3. Backup, Recovery & Failover
- Execute and manage database backup and restore operations
- Participate in business continuity and disaster recovery (DR) planning, testing, and documentation
- Ensure compliance with defined RTO (Recovery Time Objective) and RPO (Recovery Point Objective) targets
4. Database Maintenance
- Apply patches, updates, and security fixes
- Perform data refreshes, cloning, environment setup, and migrations
- Manage users, permissions, and database security policies
5. Performance Tuning
- Analyze and optimize slow-running queries and database workloads
- Optimize indexing strategies and database configurations
- Collaborate with development and application teams to improve performance
6. Incident & Problem Management
- Respond to incidents within defined SLAs and perform root cause analysis (RCA)
- Document issues, resolutions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and knowledge base articles
7. Change & Release Support
- Support releases, database updates, and change requests
- Participate in Change Advisory Board (CAB) processes and follow established change management protocols
