Are you ready to lead in the exciting field of autonomous vehicles? We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager to join our AV Platform Core team at General Motors.

This key role involves directing a talented group of engineers to create the frameworks that enable robotics and autonomous capabilities in our vehicles. You will focus on enhancing inter-process communication (IPC), middleware, and the overall developer experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee the development of high-performance software critical to our autonomous vehicles and their infrastructure.

Collaborate with technical leads to establish the team's technical vision and prepare for strategic challenges.

Work alongside Engineering Directors and Technical Program Managers to develop and execute a comprehensive roadmap.

Promote and implement best practices in software engineering.

Conduct performance evaluations, recognize top talent, and mentor staff into leadership roles.

Encourage a collaborative team culture focused on productivity and high outputs.

Help define and foster GM's engineering culture and principles.

Lead recruitment efforts by partnering with recruiters, screening candidates, and enhancing GM's engineering brand.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years of experience managing production-oriented software teams.

At least 5 years of experience in software engineering roles.

Proven experience with high-performance IPC and middleware technologies (e.g., publish/subscribe, shared memory, serialization, discovery, QoS).

Experience in developing components that are platform-ready, featuring robust observability (metrics, logs, traces), fault tolerance, and reproducible performance.

Self-driven and motivated to advance the team's effectiveness and best practices.

Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.

Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent practical experience.

Compensation and Benefits:

The expected base salary for this role ranges from $189,300 to $290,700. Actual compensation will vary based on relevant factors.

Bonus Potential: You may also qualify for an incentive pay program dependent on company, job level, and personal performance.

This role may require you to work onsite at a GM hub three times a week if within a specific radius.

The job may also be eligible for relocation benefits.
