Summary

Substitute Crossing Guards are responsible for the safe crossing of school children and other pedestrians at designated crosswalks when regularly scheduled crossing guards are unavailable. This is an on-call, part-time position with variable hours depending on school schedules and absences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist children and pedestrians safely across streets before and after school.

Monitor traffic and ensure vehicles come to a complete stop before allowing pedestrians to cross.

Communicate clearly with children, parents, and drivers using hand signals or verbal instructions.

Report any suspicious activity or unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor.

Follow all safety guidelines and procedures established by the Clinton City Police Department.

Maintain punctuality and reliability when scheduled.

Wear provided safety equipment.

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years old.

Ability to work in various weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, etc.).

Reliable transportation to and from assigned crossing locations.

Ability to remain alert and focused while standing for extended periods.

A background check will be conducted prior to employment.

Working Conditions

Outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Exposure to traffic and noise from vehicles.

May involve standing or walking for up to 2 hours per shift.

Schedule

Morning and/or afternoon shifts aligned with local school start and end times.

Hours vary depending on need; position is on-call and does not guarantee a set number of hours.
