This position receives Hazardous Duty Pay biweekly.
Schedule: Schedule to be determined with supervisor, not to exceed 29.5 hours per week.
The State of New Hampshire, Department of Corrections, Division of Rehabilitative Services has a part-time vacancy for a Chaplain located within our NH State Prison for Men in Concord, NH.
Summary:
To provide compassionate pastoral care and religious services to support the moral and spiritual well-being of individuals within Department of Corrections facilities. Engages daily in close, respectful interactions with inmates, balancing empathetic guidance with adherence to security protocols to foster a safe and supportive environment.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree and 1 year of experience OR equivalent combination of 5 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in theology, divinity, religious studies, counseling, or a ministerial position (minister, priest, rabbi, or lay) in a church, institution, or para-church organization sanctioned by a recognized denomination.
License/Certification: None
Other Requirements: Must pass security and background screenings required for correctional environments.
Trainee Option: Candidates with an equivalent combination of 4+ years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in 'trainee status' for this position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: None.
AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of the Corrections Academy within 12 months of hire and continuing certification as correctional line personnel as established by the certifying authority.

Responsibilities:
DETAILED TASKS (AGENCY/POSITION-SPECIFIC)
Facilitates religious services to provide inmates with meaningful opportunities to express their personal faith and engage in worship.
Offers pastoral care and counseling to support inmates in addressing personal religious concerns and spiritual needs.
Develops and implements religious education programs that enable inmates to explore and deepen their understanding of faith and spiritual issues.
Supervises religious volunteers to ensure compliance with institutional security protocols, monitor the quality of religious services, and promote volunteer safety.
Establishes and maintains relationships with community clergy and resources to support inmates' successful transition from incarceration to reintegration into faith communities.
Counsels the families of residents and connects them with community resources to assist in addressing issues related to incarceration and supports family well-being.
Provides guidance and support to institutional facilities by actively participating in committees dedicated to maintaining and improving overall institutional operations and services.
