Description:

About Cellsense:

Cellsense manufactures sustainable products for the fashion, jewelry, and beauty industries utilizing our proprietary material made from Algae and Cellulose. Cellsense aims to replace plastics and resins, and in doing so eliminate major sources of microplastic and heavy metal pollution. With our material we can achieve a wide range of colors, clarities, forms, and even unique properties such as bio-flourescence. Our novel manufacturing systems enable us to produce complex beaded textiles at scale, replacing overseas manual labor with highly automated domestic production. Currently, we are focussed on scaling up our process while engaging in paid pilots with industry partners. You will join us at an exciting stage of our growth.

The Role:

We are looking for a material scientist to own the formulation and performance of the Cellsense biocomposite as we move from lab scale to reliable, repeatable production. You will develop, test, and refine formulations and blends to improve clarity, mechanical strength, and long-term stability. Day to day, you'll design and run experiments, identify and screen fillers, tune hydrophobicity and water resistance, and help ensure the material runs cleanly through our automated deposition and molding processes. You'll work closely with our engineer and founder to link formulation, process parameters, and final part performance so we can meet growing demand from 48+ fashion, jewelry, and cosmetic brands.

What We're Looking For:

PhD / Masters degree in polymer processing, material science or a related field

1+ years of industry experience

Prior experience developing or characterizing polymers, hydrogels, or composites

Significant experience taking projects from concept to completion

Understanding of hydrogels, biopolymers (specifically algae/cellulose based), and crosslinking mechanisms

Familiarity with planning and running experiments, analyzing data, and documenting results so that they can be repeated and scaled

Hands-on experience with material testing and establishing QA/QC standards.

Scrappy and motivated, able to drive to solutions in a small startup

What We Offer:

Competitive salary and meaningful equity

Hands-on role with ownership from R&D through production

Comprehensive health benefits

Part of a tightly knit team aiming to make a meaningful impact

Apply:

If you're a builder who loves turning prototypes into production-ready systems, we'd love to hear from you!

Compensation

The base pay range for this role is $80,000 - $110,000 per year.
