Job Description
The Forklift Operator in the Shipping Department is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a forklift to handle, transport, load, and position containers and materials throughout the shipping area. This role includes loading and unloading shipments, moving materials between storage locations, staging areas, racks, and pack stations, and ensuring that all products are handled with care to prevent damage. The Forklift Operator must follow all safety regulations and departmental procedures to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
Hours:
Shift 14: Monday–Thursday, 2:00 PM–12:00 AM
Hourly rate of pay: $19.25 per hour base rate plus $1.25 per hour shift differential. Relevant experience may increase base pay up to $20.25 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
Operate a forklift to transport materials to and from storage racks, pack stations, and loading docks
Load and unload trucks using a forklift while ensuring accurate placement and proper load distribution
Change forklift batteries as needed to maintain continuous equipment operation
Move containers and materials safely and efficiently to support shipping workflows
Follow electronic instructions received through tablets and scanners
Perform daily equipment checks and report any issues
Ensure materials are handled and positioned properly to prevent damage during movement and transport
Communicate with truck drivers regarding freight, load placement, and shipping requirements

Ability to operate a forklift safely and efficiently, following all company safety guidelines
Ability to use tablets, scanners, and computer systems for data entry and work assignments
Familiarity with pallets, containers, and shipping materials used in warehouse operations
Basic math skills for calculating weights, dimensions, and load placement
Ability to work independently and make decisions regarding workflow priorities
6–12 months of relevant experience required Physical Requirements
Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a forklift
Ability to occasionally lift or move containers weighing up to 65 lbs.
Frequent handling of materials, pallets, and shipping containers
Required PPE: eye protection, hearing protection, MET guard safety shoes
