The Middle School Principal provides visionary, student-centered leadership for the assigned middle school, fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-achieving learning environment. The principal is responsible for the overall administration of the school, including instructional leadership, staff supervision, student services, operations, and community engagement. This position ensures alignment with district goals, state requirements, and best practices in middle level education while promoting the academic, social, and emotional development of all students.

Position Responsibilities:

Instructional Leadership

Establish and maintain a positive, student-centered learning environment.

Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of school improvement goals aligned with district priorities.

Supervise, evaluate, and promote the professional growth of teachers and support staff.

Promote high-quality instruction, data-driven decision making, and effective intervention systems.

Coordinate curriculum implementation, assessment programs, and instructional initiatives.

Facilitate professional development and instructional coaching to improve teaching effectiveness.

Support inclusive practices and coordinate services for students receiving special education and other support services.

Support collaborative teams and instructional leadership structures within the building.

Recruit, recommend, assign, and orient new staff members.

Building Operational Management

Implement Board policies, administrative guidelines, and applicable state and federal regulations.

Supervise all personnel assigned to the building.

Develop and manage the school budget in collaboration with district leadership.

Coordinate staff and student schedules.

Oversee student attendance, discipline, and record-keeping systems.

Ensure a safe and secure environment, including emergency preparedness, safety drills, and crisis response.

Monitor the condition and use of facilities, equipment, and grounds.

Coordinate student activities, programs, and events.

Establish and enforce expectations for student behavior in accordance with Board policies and the student code of conduct.

Ensure appropriate building coverage.

Prepare required reports and maintain accurate school records.

Staff Leadership and Culture

Foster a positive, collaborative, and professional school culture.

Recruit, recommend, assign, and supervise building personnel.

Conduct regular staff meetings and ensure open, two-way communication.

Support staff orientation, mentoring, and ongoing professional development.

Engage staff in shared decision-making processes and building leadership teams.

Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all personnel matters.

Family and Community Engagement

Build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners.

Establish effective two-way communication systems with families and stakeholders.

Work collaboratively with parent organizations, volunteers, and community groups.

Represent the school at community events and district functions.

Communicate school programs, expectations, and achievements to the school community.

Other Duties

Participate in district leadership meetings and initiatives.

Keep central office administration informed of school operations, needs, and concerns.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

Qualification:

Required

Master's degree or higher in educational leadership or related field.

Valid State of Ohio certification/licensure as a secondary principal.

Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in public education, including classroom teaching experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school improvement practices.

Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Preferred

Prior administrative or instructional leadership experience at the middle or secondary level.

Experience with data-driven decision making and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).

Evidence of successful staff supervision and evaluation.

Experience working with diverse student populations and inclusive practices.

Knowledge of PBIS, restorative practices, or similar frameworks.

Training or experience in school safety, crisis response, and student support systems.

Physical Demands

Ability to move throughout the building and school grounds.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and sit for extended periods.

Ability to lift, carry, or move objects up to 25 pounds.

Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and student needs.

Working Conditions:

School-based administrative environment with frequent interaction with students, staff, families, and community members.

Exposure to middle school environmental conditions.

Work may involve responding to student behavioral, medical, or safety situations.

Work schedule includes extended hours, evenings, and occasional weekends for school activities, meetings, and events.

High level of responsibility requiring sound judgment, confidentiality, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Contract and Compensation:

Work year: 224 days or as established by the Board of Education.

Salary and benefits: In accordance with the administrative salary schedule and Board policy.

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Ohio Principal Evaluation System (OPES) rubric
