Position Title: Sign Language Interpreter

Findlay City Schools is seeking an ASL Certified Sign Language Interpreter to join our amazing team of educators. The Sign Language Interpreter will provide interpretation services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring effective communication between students, teachers, and other school personnel. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the academic and social success of students with hearing impairments within the school environment.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Provide sign language interpretation services during classroom instruction, meetings, presentations, and other school activities as needed.

Facilitate effective communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, administrators, and other staff members.

Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa, maintaining accuracy, clarity, and confidentiality.

Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to support the individualized needs of students with hearing impairments.

Assist in modifying instructional materials and adapting teaching strategies to accommodate students' communication needs.

Provide support for students during testing, assessments, and other academic evaluations as required.

Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes the social integration and participation of students with hearing impairments.

Maintain professional conduct and adhere to ethical standards outlined by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or other relevant professional organizations.

Attend training sessions, workshops, and professional development activities to enhance interpreting skills and stay informed about best practices in the field.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree preferred).

Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter from a recognized program or institution.

Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with other sign systems or communication modes used by students with hearing impairments.

Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter in educational settings is preferred.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with students, staff, and parents.

Knowledge of educational laws, regulations, and accommodations for students with disabilities (e.g., Individuals with Disabilities Education Act - IDEA).

Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and flexibility in meeting the needs of students and staff.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
