Inside Sales Engineer (Path to Field Sales)
Territory: Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana
Travel: Up to 20% (inside role), up to 70% in future field role
Compensation: $65,000-$78,000 base + commission
About the Role
Join a global manufacturer of scientific equipment used in material analysis. This Inside Sales Engineer role is a 1-2 year development opportunity designed to transition into a Field Sales Engineer position. You'll own a dedicated R&D territory, build technical expertise, and grow sales within education and research markets.
What You'll Do
Territory Management
Own and grow an R&D sales territory (OH, KY, IN)
Focus on universities, labs, and research institutions
Sales & Pipeline Growth
Identify, qualify, and close new business for equipment and consumables
Independently manage the full sales cycle
Technical Consulting
Serve as the primary technical resource for customers
Recommend tailored solutions for material analysis and sample preparation
Product Demonstrations
Coordinate virtual demos with the applications lab
Explain product benefits and technical capabilities
Field Development
Travel with Field Sales Representatives (up to 20%)
Gain exposure to installations and complex sales cycles
Forecasting & CRM
Maintain accurate forecasts and records in Microsoft Dynamics CRM
Customer Relationships
Build long-term relationships with engineering and purchasing teams
Emphasis on the university and research segments
Inbound Support
Handle inbound sales calls (minimum 1.5 hours daily)
Guide customers to the best solutions for their applicationsWhat We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or similar) preferred
2+ years in technical sales, applications engineering, or customer-facing technical roles
Ability to clearly explain complex technical products and value
Strong organization and self-management skills
Experience with Microsoft Office and CRM systems
Must reside in OH, IN, or KY
