Department: Legacy Hotel
Position Summary: The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and reliability of all hotel equipment, systems, and building components to ensure the Legacy Hotel is maintained in a safe and operationally sound condition. This includes, but is not limited to, mechanical and electrical systems, pumps, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, computer systems, door locks, furniture, finishes, paint, and wall coverings
Key Responsibilities:
Manage all aspects of planning and executing the Legacy Hotel's maintenance and engineering operations to ensure the proper functioning of building systems
Develop and maintain the ongoing maintenance program for the hotel, including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment, preventive maintenance, hotel rooms, air handler units, ice machines, pool, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency generators, water softeners, switch rooms, roof exhausts, electrical substations, etc.
Develop preventive maintenance programs for guest rooms, public areas and commercial equipment. Ensure that all areas of the hotel are inspected 1x per quarter
Meet with vendors and contractors as needed to submit bids for new construction or discuss different work phases
Oversee the process of tracking and replenishing the department's supplies using inventory management systems
Coordinate response to maintenance emergencies, including after-hours calls
Ensure that the property maintains compliance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations by submitting for and receiving all necessary permits and contracts.
Teach and guide new team members on the hotel's procedures, systems, and job-specific tasks
Create goals and other performance indicators for the engineering department
Create and maintain a positive work environment that proactively addresses employee concerns and facilitates communication between leadership and team members
Prioritize and assign work to technicians and ensure timely completion of repairs
Oversee the payroll review process and adhere to IMGA policies on payroll coding and deadlines
Collaborate with internal teams to streamline operations and ensure the highest level of guest satisfaction
Collaborate with People Operations team to facilitate successful recruiting and onboarding experience for new hires
Answer guest inquiries pertaining to hotel services and local area information as appropriate
Protect confidential guest and proprietary information in accordance with company policies
Other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications:
At least 5 years of progressive engineering or building systems experience in hotels, resorts, or large commercial facilities
Strong technical background in HVAC, electrical systems, mechanical systems, boilers/chillers, and life safety systems
Experience leading a maintenance team and supervising vendors
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint
Knowledge of Opera or other hotel PMS system is a plus
Ability to use mathematical skills to prepare budgets and interpret financial information
Must have a positive attitude and have a team mindset. Physical Demands and Work Environment
Ability to lift, carry, move, push and pull equipment or boxes up to 50lbs
Ability to stand and walk for duration of shift
Ability to work on various indoor and outdoor surfaces including grass, turf, courts, etc. in all weather
Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill engineering tasks.
Must be able to climb stairs on a continuous basis.
Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
Must be able to operate office equipment such as computers
Ability to work days, nights, weekends and holidays as needed
