Job Summary
Battelle's Cyber Trust and Analytics division is searching for a talented Experimental Quantum Scientist/Researcher to join our team in Columbus, Ohio. Here, you will tackle some of the most challenging security problems facing our elite government clients. Work alongside agile teams equipped with state-of-the-art labs and resources as you advance the frontiers of computing technology.
As a Quantum Scientist at Battelle, you will have the chance to develop your expertise while solving complex issues at the intersection of hardware and software. Key responsibilities will include setting up optical experiments, aligning systems, and collaborating with engineers and mathematicians to drive breakthroughs in quantum technology.
Responsibilities
Lead and propose independent research projects focused on novel quantum devices, materials, and techniques applicable to cyber and semiconductor challenges.
Support ongoing research and development initiatives.
Collaborate closely with cybersecurity experts and engineers to design effective data solutions.
Independently conduct technical tasks and projects while adhering to time and budget constraints.
Contribute effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Communicate your ideas clearly with colleagues in science and engineering.
Work with minimal supervision to achieve project goals.
Key Qualifications
PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience in superconducting or semiconducting quantum technologies.
Demonstrated research acumen, accomplishments, and publications within quantum science or solid-state physics.
Proficient in programming languages such as Python, C/C++, R, Matlab, Fortran, Verilog, or VHDL.
Strong problem-solving skills.
A genuine curiosity for learning new technical areas, particularly related to cybersecurity.
Ability to obtain and maintain a US Top-Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working within interdisciplinary teams.
Hands-on experimental knowledge in solid-state qubit design, RF control, or quantum measurements.
Familiarity with quantum noise characterization and error protection techniques.
Experience with equipment control and data analysis.
Collaboration experience with theorists.
Knowledge of quantum error correction schemes.
Experience in modeling interactions involving multi-level or multi-qubit systems.
Documented contributions to complex collaborative projects.
Experience in quantum hardware design and fabrication.
Proven experience in the development, testing, and fielding of quantum devices or sensors.
While candidates with expertise in quantum computing will be considered, an inclination toward quantum sensing and communications is preferred.
