About the Role:
The Program Lead – Finance & Compliance will ensure the organizations financial sustainability, regulatory compliance, and operational integrity. The role oversees financial strategy, accounting systems, budgeting, risk management, and donor reporting, while strengthening financial processes and accountability across teams. Working closely with leadership and program teams, this position ensures financial planning and compliance are aligned with organizational goals and field realities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Strategy & Planning
Develop and align finance strategy with organizational goals
Set cross-functional financial priorities and track progress
Analyze financial trends and provide strategic recommendations to leadership
Lead the annual budgeting process and ensure alignment with program priorities
2. Fund Management & Compliance
Track budgets, expenditures, and fund allocations
Finalize and monitor program budgets based on funds raised
Oversee fund reallocations in alignment with donor commitments
Prepare internal financial reports and donor compliance reports
Ensure compliance with Income Tax Act, GST, FCRA, labour laws, and all statutory requirements
3. Accounting & Financial Systems
Oversee bookkeeping, taxation, financial reporting, and audits
Build and strengthen financial systems for transaction tracking and compliance integration
Maintain internal financial controls to ensure data accuracy and integrity
Institutionalize transparent financial documentation processes
4. Financial Analysis & Risk Management
Conduct cost analysis to identify efficiency opportunities
Develop financial models to support decision-making
Monitor cash flow and manage liquidity
Implement strategies to minimize financial and compliance risks
5. Policies & Process Strengthening
Develop and refine financial policies and SOPs
Ensure organization-wide awareness and adherence to policies
Continuously evaluate systems for efficiency and improvement
6. Team Leadership & Capacity Building
Lead and mentor the finance team
Identify structural gaps and optimize team roles
Support recruitment and onboarding when required
Build financial literacy across program teams
Create clear coordination mechanisms across departments
7. Stakeholder & Board Reporting
Manage relationships with banks, financial institutions, auditors, and external stakeholders
Represent the organization in financial discussions and negotiations
Provide regular financial reports to leadership and the Board
Ensure timely statutory filings and regulatory reporting
Qualifications & Experience:
8–10 years of experience in finance within the social impact sector (NGOs, CSR, social enterprises)
Minimum 5 years of experience leading finance & compliance teams
Strong working knowledge of Income Tax Act, GST, FCRA, and labour law compliance
Experienced in budgeting, donor financial reporting, audits, and statutory compliance
Systems thinker with strong operational execution ability
Strong communicator capable of collaborating across teams and field environments
Passionate about financial stewardship, transparency, and enabling mission-driven impact
Bachelors degree in Finance or Commerce required
Masters degree in Finance or a related field preferred
