Job Description Summary: To ensure that the company fleet is in proper working condition and meet safety standards. Responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various vehicles and equipment in the shop and on job sites.
Requirements and Skills
Vehicle Inspections: Perform thorough inspections of vehicles and equipment to identify mechanical, electrical and other issues. Use diagnostic tools and equipment to assess problems accurately.
Repairs and Maintenance: Carry out repairs and maintenance tasks on vehicles, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, suspension systems and other components. Replace faulty parts and perform necessary adjustments to restore proper functioning.
Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical problems using technical knowledge, diagnostic tools, and service manuals. Analyze symptoms, test components, and develop effective repair solutions.
Preventive Maintenance: Perform scheduled maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, tire rotations and other inspections to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal vehicle/equipment performance.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections and maintenance activities.
Communication: Interact with employees, management and vendors, when necessary, to understand concerns, repairs or maintenance needed. Provide accurate part and/or time allocation and costs.
Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety procedures and guidelines while working on vehicles and equipment. Follow local and federal regulations related to vehicle inspections, emissions standards and environmental practices.
Equipment and Tools: Properly use and maintain shop tools, diagnostic equipment and machinery. Keep the work area clean, organized and safe for oneself and others.
Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other mechanics, employees and management to ensure efficient workflow, share knowledge, and assist with complex repairs. Provide guidance and support to less experiences team members, if applicable.
Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest technology, repair techniques and industry trends through company training programs, workshops and self-study. Continuously improve technical skills and strive for professional growth.
Qualifications:
The mechanic must have:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of vocational or technical training is preferred.
Proven experience as a mechanic or technician.
Knowledge of repair systems, components and repair procedures.
Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, computerized systems and service manuals.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Physical ability to lift heavy objects and stand for extended periods.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. CDL preferred.
