POSITION: Assistant Controller
LOCATION: Columbus, OH
REPORT TO: Controller
FLSA STATUS: Fulltime, Onsite, Exempt
SALARY: $90,000 to $110,000 annually based on experience
OVERVIEW
The Assistant Controller supports the Regional Controller in managing Bay Crane’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, compliance with GAAP, and continuous improvement of accounting processes. The Assistant Controller will work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations and senior management, in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Review weekly accounts payable voucher reports to ensure charges are accurately supported by invoices, properly coded, and compliant with company policies.
Review and validate purchase orders to confirm correct job cost allocation, coding accuracy, and alignment with approved budgets.
Review and approve Concur PNC credit card expense reports, ensuring expenses are properly documented, compliant with company policies, and accurately recorded in the general ledger.
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations
Support preparation of internal management reports
Monitor cost allocations and intercompany transactions
Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and applicable regulations
Assist with external audits
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
5–8 years of progressive accounting experience
Experience in construction, heavy equipment, or project-based industries preferred
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
Experience with ERP/accounting systems (construction or job-costing systems a plus)
Advanced Excel skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
