Position Overview
Crown Innovations is seeking an experienced Construction Plant & Equipment Installation Technician to support the construction and installation of radio communication facilities alongside our Electronics Technician team. This is a hands-on field role, focused on excavation, duct bank installation, heavy equipment operation, concrete work, tower climbing, and physical infrastructure buildout supporting mission-critical communications systems.
This position requires 100% travel across the United States. The selected candidate must be capable of performing physically demanding construction work in outdoor environments while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.
This role supports federally regulated infrastructure projects and requires compliance with government security requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Site Preparation & Civil Construction
• Perform trenching and excavation activities
• Install underground conduit systems and duct bank
• Calculate concrete requirements; form, pour, and finish concrete
• Prepare work areas for equipment installation
• Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances per drawings and plans
Equipment Operation
• Safely and efficiently operate mini-excavator and skid steer (required)
• Operate jobsite equipment only if properly trained and authorized
• Use common hand tools and power tools in accordance with safety standards
• Secure and properly store equipment and materials after use
Infrastructure & Installation Support
• Pull and secure cables, including routing on structures exceeding 60 feet
• Assist in installing electrical components and wiring systems per drawings and job specifications
• Perform exothermic welding (training provided if needed)
• Work side-by-side with Electronics Technicians during site builds and equipment installation
• Troubleshoot field construction challenges and determine efficient, safe solutions
Safety & Professional Standards
• Maintain jobsite cleanliness and proper tool/material handling
• Follow safety procedures and use appropriate PPE
• Deliver safe, quality work on schedule
• Work safely with minimal supervision
• Perform physically demanding work during 10-hour workdays in outdoor conditions
• Work in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, and rain
Minimum Required Qualifications
• U.S. Citizen
• Valid, current driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to pass a government background investigation in accordance with federal contract requirements
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum five (5) years of relevant construction experience, including duct bank and conduit installation, concrete finishing, excavation, and equipment operation
• Experience using common hand tools and power tools in construction environments
• Demonstrated ability to safely operate mini-excavator and skid steer (required)
• Willingness and ability to climb towers often exceeding 60 feet and successfully complete a Competent Tower Climbing class
• Ability to stand, sit, crouch, and work in one position for extended periods
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and move up to 350 lbs using appropriate equipment
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work safely with minimal supervision
• Willingness to travel 100%
Education Requirement
• Required: Two-year degree or certificate program in Construction Technology, Heavy Equipment, Electrical/Mechanical Technology, Utilities, or related accredited trade program
Schedule & Work Environment
• Typical field schedule consists of extended 10-hour workdays
• Work may require non-standard hours based on project requirements
• This is a 100% travel position
Compensation
Hourly Rate Range: $20.00 to $49.00 per hour (W2)
Compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and internal equity considerations.
Crown complies with all applicable state and local pay transparency laws. The listed compensation range represents the good faith salary range for this position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, geographic considerations, and business needs.
