The Superintendent, R&D & Sustainability Agriculture position will lead agricultural research and sustainability initiatives to improve crop performance, ensure environmental compliance, and support the integration of innovative, data driven practices across field operations, while providing technical guidance to teams and contributing to the company’s long term sustainable agriculture goals.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related field (master’s degree would be an asset)
Minimum five (5) years’ experience in sugar cane agronomy, agricultural research, or sustainability programs
Experience managing field trials, environmental initiatives, or agricultural projects
Supervisory or team leadership experience is an asset
Valid driver’s license.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong leadership and team coordination skills.
Solid knowledge of sugarcane cultivation and sustainable agriculture practices.
Experience managing agricultural field trials and collecting high quality field data.
Proficiency with agriculture software, GIS, drone technology, and data management tools.
Strong data analysis, research, and report writing capabilities.
Ability to work independently with excellent problem solving and decision making skills.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Designing, implementing, and managing sugar cane agronomic research trials and crop experiments.
Analyzing field data and preparing technical reports with actionable recommendations.
Develop and implement environmental sustainability programs aligned with corporate and regulatory requirements
Promote soil conservation, water management, biodiversity protection, and climate smart agriculture
Provide technical guidance to field supervisors, technicians, and farmers
Integrate R&D findings into commercial field operations
Supervise the day to day activities of technicians and field teams
Contribute to budgeting, resource planning, and cost control for R&D and sustainability projects
Maintain accurate research reports, sustainability metrics, and field performance data
Ensure compliance with agricultural, environmental, and health safety regulations
Supervise R&D technicians and sustainability employees when assigned
Represent the department in industry forums, research meetings, and stakeholder engagements
