Purpose
Seeking a motivated and independent temporary worker primarily to assist in tending to the City South Yard including monitoring and processing material loads that come into the facility.
Full-time, up to 40 hours per week. Up to a maximum six months.
Essential Job Duties
Maintains South Yard parts, material and equipment.
Organizes and maintains material bins and loads waste into bins.
Assists with excavation of holes and trenches up to 12 feet deep.
Operates a variety of equipment such as pick-up truck, compressor- skid steer, backhoe, loader.
Assists with installing and repairing water service lines, fire hydrants, fire lines, meters and meter chambers, water mains and main line valves, sewer main line repairs and utility CCTV inspection.
Assists in removing and replacing asphalt or concrete in City utility excavation.
Assists with traffic control around construction sites including assembly and set up of traffic control devices such as barricades, cones and flag stands.
Maintains a clean work environment. Performs clean up tasks throughout shift including cleaning the decant bathroom.
Adheres to established safety procedures and utilizes safety equipment as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
Lawful and active WA Driver License.
Equipment operator experience preferred.Prefer knowledge of:
Materials used to perform duties including pipe types, fittings, valves and other items associated with water and sewer pipe.Requires the ability to:
Consistently represent the City by maintaining a professional demeanor in all activities.
Work outside in all weather conditions and temperature extremes.
Operate a variety of hand and power tools and basic equipment.
Work in close quarters and confined spaces. Descend as far as 20 feet below ground level into manholes, vaults, tanks and excavations. Reach with hands and arms. Sit, stand, walk, bend over, twist at waist, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and ambulate up and down ladders and stairs. Traverse varying terrain and obstacles such as pipes and ditches..
The City of Wenatchee has adopted a policy measuring the 'full-time' status of temporary employees over 12-months for purposes of benefit eligibility. Temporary employees with assignments less than 6-months are not eligible for benefits with exception of participation in the WA State Department of Retirement System (DRS) as long as DRS eligibility requirements are met (compensated for at least 70 hours per month for five months in a 12-month period). There will be no retroactivity applied to benefits or any other employment terms and conditions should regular employment be offered at a future date.
