Java Developer (LOCAL TO AZ)

A client in Phoenix, AZ is looking for a Java Developer to support and modernize an existing enterprise application by integrating into established development platforms, managing change requests, and migrating source code to an on-premise DMZ environment. This role emphasizes structured delivery, accessibility compliance, and detailed technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, enhance, and maintain Java-based enterprise applications

Integrate with existing development platforms, source control, and change management systems

Work within a structured change request process to implement, test, and deploy code updates

Port and maintain application source code within an on-premise, DMZ-hosted environment

Transition application components from proprietary frameworks to open-source equivalents where needed

Ensure application meets accessibility (ADA/WCAG) compliance standards

Add and maintain accessibility tags for image and UI components

Address findings from accessibility scans

Maintain a target accessibility compliance score of at least 90%

Collaborate with internal teams including infrastructure, security, and QA

Produce and maintain detailed technical documentation for code changes, configurations, and deployments

Support and optimize internally managed, in-house systems

Day-to-Day Activities

Spend approximately 60% of time working on change requests:

Receiving assigned changes through the change management system

Writing and updating Java code to fulfill those requests

Deploying changes through the established platform and release process

Participate in code reviews, troubleshooting, and application support

Create and update documentation to support knowledge sharing, audits, and long-term maintenance

Required Skills & Experience

5+ years of experience with Java development, including building, enhancing, and supporting enterprise applications

Experience working in AWS or cloud-based environments, including deploying, supporting, or maintaining applications

Experience working with Git-based source control and change/issue tracking tools such as Jira or similar systems

Familiarity with on-premise or hybrid environments

Ability to work within structured development and release processes

Strong documentation skills and the ability to clearly communicate technical changes

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Familiarity with on-premise or hybrid environments, including secure or DMZ-hosted systems
