POSITION TYPE: EXEMPT
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
In addition to serving as a consultant of overall analysis and planning for information systems, the Network Technician III also serves as the information security point of contact for assigned locations. Additionally, this position participates in agency information security tactical and strategic planning processes.
This position offers the flexibility to work remotely up to two days per week following the successful completion of a six-month training period.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Assist in formulating and implementing information technology policies, procedures, standards and best practices
Coordinate responses to customers as it relates to information technology and systems
Provide support and service to information system users on a computer or telecommunication network running in stand-alone, client/server, web-based, and/or networked environment using established methods and procedures and provide installation and monitoring support
Install and evaluate customer routing and switching equipment
Implement updates and changes, and assist with other engineering software updates, installation, testing, and troubleshooting for customers and IT offices
Use a computer and related to develop documentation for installation and usage guides for various engineering applications
Resolve problems on computers running IT networking applications, servers hosting software and licenses, and web-based applications
Evaluate networking hardware for performance
Perform hardware installation and testing
Perform set-up and installation for hardware and/or software
Assist in development and implementation of technology innovations that involve software and hardware testing, evaluation, and installation
Travel to districts to evaluate, test, install, and update network related hardware and software
Perform other work-related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
CCNA or JNCIS certification preferred
Completion of undergraduate core program coursework in information technology, electrical engineering or telecommunications
8 years’ experience in information systems analysis, design and operations
18 months’ experience in project/program management and budgeting
Or 4 years’ experience as Network Technician 2 in lieu of the above qualifications
Knowledge of information systems which includes LAN/WAN architecture and principles, networking operation systems and protocols and network monitoring and capacity planning techniques
Information systems analysis and design
High-level information systems language, information systems, and software development
Information systems acquisition procedures and fiscal controls (developed after employment)
Budgeting
Project/program management
Skill in using personal computer
Ability to deal with many variables and determine specific action
Read and interpret extensive variety of technical information systems material
Communicate verbally or in writing on technical and non-technical matters
