Ready to take ownership and build a safety program from the ground up? We're looking for an experienced EHS professional to lead compliance, culture, and continuous improvement in a hands-on, high-impact role.

We have an opening for an EHS Specialist to join our team. The EHS Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.

Freshpack is a custom cheese packaging company that develops and innovates cheese products and packaging. Our products can be found in all 50 states and in most major retailers. Over the past 25 years, our team has grown from 15 to 270+ employees. It is an exciting time to join our team, as we are poised for substantial growth over the next 3-5 years.

Responsibilities

Health & Safety Compliance

Maintain and update all programs and documentation under the company’s safety & health program, including OSHA-mandated elements such as:

o Hazard Communication (HazCom)

o Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)

o Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

o Emergency Action Plans (EAP)

o Bloodborne Pathogens

o Hearing Conservation Program

Ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are accurate, up-to-date, and accessible to employees in a language they understand

Lead and document workplace safety inspections, hazard assessments, and job safety analyses

Investigate incidents, injuries, and near misses and identify root causes and recommend corrective actions

Monitor safety training compliance and coordinate with Training & Development to ensure regulatory requirements are met

Maintain and post OSHA logs (300, 300A) as required

Serve as the primary contact during OSHA inspections or audits; lead internal audit readiness efforts

Environmental Compliance

Ensure compliance with waste disposal, stormwater, wastewater, and chemical storage regulations

Manage reporting and recordkeeping related to environmental permits

Oversee hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, including vendor coordination

Safety Culture & Continuous Improvement

Champion a proactive safety culture through training, communication, and engagement initiatives

Lead Safety Committee meetings and support site leadership in implementing safety improvements

Collaborate with Maintenance, Operations, HR, and Quality to support cross-functional safety goals

Identify opportunities to reduce risks and costs associated with workplace injuries and hazards Requirements:

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field; or hold a CSP or CIH certification

5+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing, food production, or related industrial environment

Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety best practices

Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to train and influence at all levels

Ability to conduct root cause analysis and follow up on corrective/preventive actions

Proficiency in MS Office and safety management systems

Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Certification a plus
