Description
The Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) at the Connecticut General Assembly (CGA) is seeking a SQL Database Administrator with experience in researching, analyzing, designing, proposing, and delivering technology solutions and system specification designs that effectively support CGA business strategies for the existing and future CGA technology infrastructure.
Examples of Duties
Major Function and Responsibilities:
Database Administration for MSSQL Server in multi-instance environment.
New SQL installations and upgrades
Troubleshooting and Resolving Database Problems
Performance Tuning and Optimization using Native Monitoring and Troubleshooting Tools
Backups: AWS/ Restores / Recovery Models / Replication/ Distribution
Maintain High Availability / Disaster Recovery Options for MSSQL Server
ETL Tools (Extract Transform Load) – SSIS
Creating Scripts and Stored procedures
Database maintenance – maintain Indexes / Index Management / Statistics
Creating SQL agent jobs for performance and alert monitoring
Maintain and manage Inventory and helpdesk databases
Web Server – IIS and SSL Certificate Experience
Install, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot performance and high availability
Maintain High availability via Kemp Load balancer hardware - Kemp Administration and VMWare Site Recovery Manager.
Conducts systems performance monitoring to preserve the integrity and availability of all system resources and key processes
Review’s performance metrics and recommends tuning strategies to achieve higher performance and availability
Supports the CGA with troubleshooting and change requests for various CGA infrastructure systems, related services, and applications
Resolves enterprise infrastructure issues regarding operations, including installations, setup, security, systems transactions, system status, and downtime procedures
Identifies and resolves any degradation, unusual activities, or system downtime
Communicates with vendors to obtain pricing and technical specifications for hardware, software, or services
Performs other duties as assigned
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience
5+ years of relevant work experience in SQL Database Administration, Information Technology (IT) Operations, multi-systems integration, infrastructure design, and planning.
Bachelor's degree in Data Management or Information Technology related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Broad level knowledge and working experience in a variety of Information Technology disciplines/technologies
Strong experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting of highly available infrastructure systems
Demonstrate experience in the creation and management of technical documentation
Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including effective written and oral presentation skills
Possesses exceptional logical and analytical skills, demonstrating talent for identifying, scrutinizing, improving, and streamlining complex work processes
Flexible team player who has exceptional ability to effectively prioritize and juggle multiple concurrent assignments
Innovative problem solver who can troubleshoot complex CGA systems-related issues and generate workable solutions
Ability to perform advanced administration of multiple CGA systems and ensure systems availability
Demonstrates sound analytical and diagnostic skills dealing with issues that are not readily defined and/or conflict with available information
