Position Summary
The Chief Accountant is the head of the school’s accounting function and is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records, compliance with applicable education regulations and accounting standards, and effective internal controls. The position provides professional financial support to the School Operations and serves as the primary contact for audits and regulatory reviews.
Key Responsibilities
1. Accounting & Financial Management
Oversee all accounting operations, including revenues, expenditures, assets, liabilities, and funds
Supervise daily accounting activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
Prepare, review, and approve monthly, annual, and statutory financial statements
Manage year-end closing, settlement, and final accounts in accordance with regulations
Assist in the preparation of the annual budget, monitoring budget execution and provide financial control and advisory support to the management team
2. Compliance & Internal Control
Ensure all accounting practices comply with applicable laws, accounting systems, and regulatory requirements
Establish, implement, and continuously improve internal control and accounting procedures
Support internal audits, external audits, and inspections by supervisory authorities, and follow up on audit findings
3. External Reporting & Audit Coordination
Act as the primary liaison with external auditors, accountants, tax and regulatory authorities
Handle statutory financial reporting and required submissions to education authorities
Manage accounting and reporting for government subsidies, grants, and special-purpose funds
4. Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Supervise, guide, and develop accounting office staff
Assign responsibilities, review work output, and ensure proper segregation of duties
Collaborate with academic and administrative departments on financial and accounting matters
Provide financial insights and professional advice to support school management decisions
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or above in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Minimum of 10 years of accounting or financial management experience
Prior supervisory or managerial experience required
Experience in leading financial system implementation and management
Experience in educational institutions, non-profit organizations, or public-sector accounting is preferred
Demonstrates intellectual curiosity and a proactive mindset in identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in accounting processes, internal controls, and financial management practices.
Strong knowledge of accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial reporting
CPA or equivalent professional certification preferred
High level of integrity and accuracy
Hands-on approach and attention to detail
Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills
Proficiency in accounting systems and standard office and google software
