JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Transportation Technician
LOCATION: Bus Garage
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY
To assist Director of Transportation with various duties including maintaining county vehicles for the safe transportation of county employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TYPICAL TASKS
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following:
Have extensive experience in auto and truck repairs
Must obtain state inspection license within 90 days of employment
Have a Bus Driver's license or be willing to obtain
Use diagnostic equipment as an aide in locating vehicle defects
Perform repairs on gas and diesel equipment
Possess basic knowledge of auto electric troubleshooting
Inform supervisor of any major vehicle repairs needed
Effective communication skills when dealing with staff and general public
Carry out all duties in a safe and reasonable manner
Effective record keeping skills
Other reasonable duties may be assigned by Director of Transportation
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Sensitivity to persons with different backgrounds is essential when communicating. Must have outstanding organizational skills.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Demonstrated qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with staff, administrators, and parents are required. Must possess good moral character.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS
Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards. Regular contact with staff members and members of the community is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Contracted 12 month employee with full benefits.
EVALUATION
The Director of Transportation will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
