Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Slitter Operator to join our production team. The Slitter Operator is responsible for setting up and operating high-speed slitting machinery to cut large master steel coils into narrower widths (mults) according to precise customer specifications. This role is critical to ensuring our downstream roll-forming lines have the high-quality materials needed to produce our signature steel framing products.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Setup: Configure slitter heads, knives, and spacers according to job work orders and precision tolerances.

Material Handling: Use overhead cranes or forklifts to load master coils onto the uncoiler and remove finished slit coils.

Operation: Monitor the slitting process to ensure proper tension, tracking, and edge quality. Adjust machine settings as needed to maintain speed and accuracy.

Quality Control: Perform regular inspections of slit widths and gauges using micrometers, calipers, and tape measures. Document all quality checks and production outputs.

Maintenance: Perform routine daily maintenance and minor troubleshooting on the slitting line to ensure maximum uptime and safety.

Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all OSHA and company safety standards, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and the use of PPE.

Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and organized work area to support our commitment to lean manufacturing and safety.

Qualifications & Skills

Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of experience operating a steel slitter or similar metal processing equipment (Experience with light-gauge steel preferred).

Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and technical specifications.

Precision Tools: Proficiency in using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, and standard/metric tape measures).

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, work in a loud industrial environment, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Education: High School Diploma or GED; vocational training in machining or metalworking is a plus.

Equipment: Previous certification or experience with overhead cranes and forklifts is highly desirable.
