The Macon R-1 School District is accepting applications for a Work-Based Learning (WBL) Advisor beginning the 2026-2027 school year at MACTEC. The successful candidate will develop and lead a district-wide work-based learning system that connects students to meaningful, career-aligned experiences. This role focuses on building strong employer partnerships, defining clear tiers of work-based learning, and ensuring students have equitable access to high-quality opportunities such as job shadows, internships, cooperative education, and school-based enterprises. The WBL Advisor ensures all work-based learning experiences are well-organized, compliant, and aligned to workforce and career pathway needs.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Education

DESE issued teaching or Career & Technical Education certificate

Experience in work-based learning, career education, workforce development, or employer engagement

Knowledge of Missouri DESE CTE requirements, Perkins V accountability, and youth employment regulations.

Strong relationship-building, communication, organizational, and project management skills

Ability to work collaboratively with educators, employers, students, families, and community partners

Working Conditions:

This position primarily operates in a school and community-based environment and requires frequent interaction with employers and industry partners. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for employer meetings, student placements, or community events.

Essential Responsibilities:

Work-Based Learning Program Design & Oversight

Develop and implement a comprehensive Work-Based Learning framework that defines multiple tiers of WBL (e.g., career awareness, career exploration, career preparation, and career training).

Align WBL experiences with DESE guidance, Perkins V indicators, and career education program goals.

Create clear procedures, timelines, and expectations for students, instructors, and employers, participating in WBL.

Develop and maintain WBL handbooks, forms, training materials, and evaluation tools.

Business & Industry Partnerships:

Build, expand, and maintain strong partnerships with local and regional employers and workforce partners.

Serve as the primary liaison between the District and business partners for work-based learning opportunities.

Coordinate employer engagement activities such as job shadows, site visits, mentoring, and internships.

Ensure employer partners provide safe, meaningful, and career-relevant learning experiences.

Student Placement & Supervision:

Coordinate and oversee student placement into appropriate work-based learning experiences.

Match students to placements based on career interests, readiness, and program alignment.

Monitor student participation, attendance, and performance in collaboration with instructors and employers.

Support student development of employability skills including professionalism, communication, and workplace expectations.

Maintain accurate documentation and records for all work-based learning placements.

Access, Equity & Outreach:

Expand equitable access to work-based learning opportunities for all students, including special populations.

Collaborate with instructors, counselors, and administrators to remove barriers to participation.

Promote work-based learning opportunities to students, families, employers, and community stakeholders.

Assist with marketing materials, presentations, and outreach related to WBL opportunities.

Collaboration & Reporting:

Collaborate closely with the Career Services Counselor to align WBL participation with career readiness tracking, Perkins reporting, and postsecondary outcomes.

Work with instructors to ensure work-based learning reinforces classroom instruction and technical skill development.

Provide regular updates to the administration on participation, partnerships, and program outcomes.

Perform other duties as assigned by the administrator in support of work-based learning initiative.
