Title of Post: Business Development Manager (IBio)

JOB SYNOPSIS

The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Limerick invites applications for a specific purpose contract for a Senior Executive Administrator (Business Development Manager) This position is essential to formalise and centralise the management of external relationships, streamline operational processes, and support strategic initiatives aligned with the University's broader objectives. The Department of Biological Sciences is undergoing a strategic transformation to enhance its academic, research, and industry engagement capabilities. This evolution is driven by the increasing complexity and scale of external partnerships, student placement coordination, and the need for robust business development to support departmental growth and sustainability. One example is the new BSc/MSc in Immersive Bioscience and Biotherapeutics programme which has secured substantial external funding to date and will take its first student intake in September 2026. Additional industry partners are required to support the programme, and this new role is central to this. In the case of the innovative iBio programme it integrates academic learning with immersive, credit-bearing industry Residencies, which are financially supported by BioPharma partners. The success of this model depends on high-quality industry engagement, complex coordination, and strategic oversight functions that are now centralised within this new role. This post consolidates previously fragmented responsibilities across academic and administrative staff, introducing a dedicated professional function to manage the operational, strategic, and relational aspects of the programme. The exciting role demands a high level of autonomy, strategic thinking, and cross-functional collaboration, with significant accountability in areas such as funding, compliance, student welfare, and stakeholder engagement.
