Senior Data Analyst – Mainframe & Reporting Modernization

Location: Remote (Texas Preferred)

This role supports large-scale technology modernization initiatives for legacy Mainframe and enterprise reporting systems within a regulatory environment. The position is highly data-centric, focusing on data modeling, data migration, source-to-target documentation, ETL validation, and database architecture modernization. The Senior Data Analyst will collaborate with cross-functional technical teams to ensure secure, normalized, and audit-ready data solutions aligned with business and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

(Including but not limited to)

• Lead data analysis efforts supporting Mainframe Transformation and enterprise reporting modernization initiatives.

• Analyze legacy mainframe and relational data sources to document data flows, lineage, and transformation logic.

• Design, develop, and maintain normalized and secure data models, including ERDs and governed data standards (PII classification).

• Develop and document Source-to-Target (S2T) mappings and transformation specifications for ETL/ELT processes.

• Support database implementations across Oracle, Snowflake, SQL Server, and IMS environments.

• Collaborate with ETL teams (SSIS, ADF, Informatica) to validate loads, transformations, and reconciliation processes.

• Perform root cause analysis on data defects and production support issues related to system/data bridges.

• Define data quality controls, validation processes, and reconciliation procedures.

• Create comprehensive technical documentation, including interface documentation and data flow diagrams.

• Implement Change Data Capture (CDC) strategies for bulk data movement.

• Support controlled code promotion and version management using GitHub or equivalent tools.

• Provide status updates, risk identification, and progress reporting to project stakeholders and leadership.

• Support full SDLC lifecycle activities including requirements elicitation, UAT support, and implementation.

• Ensure database solutions conform to normalization standards, performance requirements, and security guidelines.

• Provide guidance to Business Intelligence and reporting teams (Power BI/SSRS).

• Work independently under limited supervision with strong initiative and technical judgment.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of Business Analysis experience focused on data modeling, data flows, and full SDLC documentation.

• 10+ years of experience producing project documentation including data models, ERDs, S2T specifications, traceability artifacts, and technical specifications.

• 10+ years facilitating stakeholder collaboration, requirements elicitation, and technical solution design.

• 10+ years working with ETL/ELT teams (SSIS, ADF, Informatica), including documenting transformations and validating data loads.

• 10+ years performing data validation, reconciliation, and root cause analysis for production data/system issues.

• 10+ years defining functional design and system specifications for large-scale IT projects.

• 10+ years of advanced SQL proficiency (SQL Server and/or Oracle) for profiling, validation, reconciliation, and relational modeling (normalization, indexing, keys).

• Strong expertise in ERD development and relational database design principles.

• Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, Snowflake, and/or Mainframe IMS hierarchical databases.

• Knowledge of Change Data Capture (CDC) processes and bulk data movement.

• Experience supporting UAT, implementation activities, and audit-ready reporting.

• Strong technical writing skills and proficiency with Visio, SharePoint, Confluence, Azure DevOps, and MS Office tools.

• Experience maintaining documentation in structured repositories and version control environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working within the Oil & Gas industry.

• Experience modernizing Mainframe systems and legacy reporting/tracking systems.

• Experience migrating data from mainframe environments to modern SaaS or COTS platforms.

• Familiarity with hierarchical databases (IMS) and legacy system limitations.

• Experience with Informatica, MuleSoft, COBOL, Java, Salesforce, Snowflake, or GoAnywhere.

• Experience implementing Data Warehouse solutions.

• Proven ability to lead process improvement initiatives and enforce governance standards.

• Experience in compliance, enforcement, or regulatory data environments.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
