Are you ready to make an impact through numbers? As a Budget Analyst with the Ohio Department of Children and Youth (DCY), you’ll help ensure that vital programs—such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Child Care—are funded and managed effectively. Your work will directly support Ohio families and children by shaping how resources are allocated and monitored.

What You’ll Do

Plan and Manage Budgets: Assist in developing and implementing operating and capital budgets for DCY programs.

Analyze Financial Data: Research, evaluate, and project fiscal operations using advanced statistical methods and tools.

Ensure Compliance: Prepare federal budget reports, respond to inquiries, and address audit findings.

Collaborate Across Agencies: Work with the Office of Budget and Management, Legislative Service Commission, and other state entities.

Leverage Technology: Use systems like OAKS, OhioBuys, GMS, and Excel to maintain fiscal accountability and control.

What We’re Looking For

Knowledge of public finance, governmental budgeting, and fiscal management.

Strong analytical skills and ability to apply statistical methods.

Proficiency with financial systems and software (Excel, statistical tools).

Ability to define problems, analyze data, and make sound recommendations.

Pay Information

Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be step 1 of the salary range associated with this position. New hires advance to the next step in the range after 6 months and annually thereafter. Based on collective bargaining and legislative activity, there may be cost of living increases awarded annually. Additional longevity supplements begin after 5 years. The current wage progression for this position is in the table below.

3 yrs. experience in budgeting that included fiscal analysis, management & control (e.g., probability; linear regression; multiple variable regression; computer assisted regression analysis models; trend analysis; forecasting cost benefit analysis).

-Or completion of undergraduate core program in accounting, public finance, public administration or business administration; 12 mos. exp. in budgeting that included fiscal analysis, management & control (e.g., probability; linear regression; multiple variable regression; computer assisted regression analysis models; trend analysis; forecasting cost benefit analysis).

-Or Completion of graduate core program in accounting, public finance, public administration or business administration which included coursework in quantitative/statistical analysis (e.g., probability; linear regression; multiple variable regression; computer assisted regression analysis models; trend analysis; forecasting cost benefit analysis).

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
