The GATX summer intern program is a paid 13-week internship from May - August. The Facility Manufacturing Engineering Intern will work hands-on with the local Engineering and Maintenance teams, applying classroom knowledge and skills to defined projects to learn about industrial facility management fundamentals from GATX professionals. Responsibilities
Work with the Facility Manufacturing Engineering team to support the department's projects, documentation and compliance requirements Capital project management for defined projects
Identify opportunities to optimize production and maintenance processes
Design tooling/fixtures for railcar repair
Develop Standard Work Instructions (SWIs) for various railcar repair processes throughout the shop
Support the Maintenance department with daily facility upkeep
Plan preventative maintenance programs for the repair shop to optimize availability (up time) of all equipment
Investigate and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions
Shadow Maintenance team during critical asset repairs
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Required:
Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, construction management, or similar degree programs
Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
Experience using AutoCAD or similar software package preferred
Candidates need to be competent with Microsoft Office including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
