Senior Mechanical Engineer
Location: Bend, Oregon Hybrid flexibility available
Compensation: $140k+ DOE, plus bonus and relocation assistance
HireIQ Solutions is leading the search for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a respected and growing engineering consulting firm in Bend, Oregon. This is a leadership-track position ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys both technical work and direct client interaction. The right person will play a central role in project execution, client management, and shaping the firm's future.
About the Role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the mechanical design of small to mid-size MEP projects across commercial, industrial, multi-family, and high-end residential sectors. You'll have the autonomy to manage your own projects while being supported by a team of drafters and other engineers. This is an opportunity to do meaningful, hands-on engineering work while building long-term relationships with clients and helping guide the strategic direction of the firm.
This role also has potential to transition into the Managing Principal position over time. The current Managing Principal may move into a broader leadership role within the firm's parent company to capitalize on expanded Design-Build opportunities across the region. For the right candidate, this opens the door to step into firm leadership, driving both project and business success as they demonstrate their capabilities and value to the team.
Key Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design for MEP systems including HVAC, plumbing, and hydronic systems
Collaborate closely with electrical and structural teams to deliver coordinated designs
Conduct site visits, develop system layouts, perform load calculations, and select equipment
Manage client relationships, including project scope, schedule, and communication
Oversee and review drafting support to ensure accuracy and quality of documentation
Provide mentorship to junior team members
Support proposal development, fee estimates, and business development activities Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Professional Engineer (PE) license required
7+ years of mechanical engineering experience in the built environment
Proven experience leading projects and coordinating with internal/external teams
Strong understanding of building systems, codes, and energy efficiency best practices
Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision
Excellent communication and organizational skills Preferred Experience
Experience with Oregon-based construction and permitting processes
Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit workflows
