Threading Operator Lead/Supervisor

Job Description

The Manufacturing Lead is a hands-on production leader responsible for overseeing daily manufacturing operations related to cutting, threading, and bending pipe and electrical conduit. This role combines active shop-floor leadership and hands-on production with production planning, equipment setup, troubleshooting, and safety enforcement. The ideal candidate has deep practical experience with industrial pipe fabrication equipment and can lead a team to meet production, quality, and safety expectations.

Responsibilities

Lead, schedule, and coordinate daily activities of the manufacturing team to meet production goals.

Assign work, balance labor across operations, and adjust schedules to maintain throughput.

Serve as the technical point of contact on the shop floor for cutting, threading, and bending operations.

Train, coach, and mentor operators on proper setup, operation, and best practices.

Oversee and support pipe and conduit cutting using industrial band saws.

Manage threading using industrial pipe threaders.

Supervise bending using large-scale manufacturing benders.

Set up and verify equipment for production runs, including tooling, dies, chasers, and fixtures.

Troubleshoot process issues related to fit, thread quality, bend accuracy, and dimensional tolerances.

Ensure first-article and in-process checks are completed and documented as required.

Ensure all work meets internal quality standards and applicable codes/specifications.

Enforce safety policies, machine guarding, lockout/tagout, and PPE requirements.

Conduct regular safety observations and correct unsafe conditions or behaviors.

Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area (5S mindset).

Identify equipment issues and perform basic mechanical troubleshooting and repairs.

Coordinate with maintenance or external service providers for larger repairs or preventive maintenance.

Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and scrap.

Track daily production output and communicate status, delays, or issues to management.

Support production planning by identifying capacity constraints and improvement opportunities.

Participate in continuous improvement efforts focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

MUST HAVE Skills

At least 4 years of threading operator experience.

3+ years of hands-on experience in pipe or electrical conduit manufacturing or fabrication.

1-3 years in a lead or informal leadership role.

Experience with industrial band saws, industrial pipe threading equipment, and large pipe/conduit bending machines.

Prior experience leading or supervising manufacturing personnel.

Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

Working knowledge of shop safety practices and OSHA requirements.

Ability to read drawings, work orders, and basic production documentation.

Some computer skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with steel rigid conduit (RMC), EMT, IMC, or structural pipe fabrication.

Familiarity with NPT threading standards and bend tolerances.

Experience scheduling production in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.

Any experience as a supervisor in this area is a plus.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $36.00/hr.
