Position Summary

The Documentation & Environmental Compliance Specialist is responsible for maintaining the integrity, accuracy, and flow of controlled documentation while ensuring compliance with environmental regulatory requirements and applicable standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, as well as helping with the overall IATF 16949 .

This role supports Quality and EHS functions by managing documents, coordinating audits, maintaining environmental records, and promoting adherence to company policies.

Key Responsibilities

Documentation Control (50%)

Maintain the document control system, ensuring all procedures, work instructions, forms, and records are current, approved, and distributed appropriately.

Process document change requests, revision updates, and archival of obsolete documents.

Manage controlled copies at all manufacturing, inspection, and administrative points.

Ensure version control and proper formatting per corporate and customer standards.

Support internal and external audits with timely document retrieval.

Assist process owners in developing, revising, and standardizing documentation.

Maintain training matrix alignment with changes to controlled documents.

Oversee electronic documentation tools (SharePoint, Plex, SAP, etc. — adjust to your plant).

Environmental Compliance (50%)

Maintain compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations (air, water, waste, chemicals, spill reporting, stormwater, etc.).

Maintain and improve the Environmental Management System (EMS) per ISO 14001 requirements.

Track, document, and report environmental metrics (waste removal, hazardous waste manifests, chemical inventories, energy usage, etc.).

Coordinate internal environmental audits and assist with third-party audits.

Perform and document monthly environmental inspections: waste accumulation areas, spill kits, labels, chemical storage, etc.

Maintain the facility’s aspects/impacts register and legal register.

Lead incident investigations related to environmental spills or near misses.

Support sustainability initiatives and resource-reduction projects.

Train employees on environmental requirements, best practices, and spill response.

Requirements:

Qualifications

2+ years experience in manufacturing, quality, EHS, or document control (automotive or aerospace preferred).

Working knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and ISO 14001 frameworks.

Strong organizational skills; detail-driven and consistent in record keeping.

Ability to work independently and cross-functionally with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality.

Proficiency with document management systems and Microsoft Office.

Strong written communication skills and professionalism.

Ability to manage multiple tasks with urgency and accuracy.

Preferred Skills

Experience supporting third-party audits (NSF, DQS, LRQA, BSI, etc.).

Knowledge of hazardous waste management under EPA RCRA guidelines.

Familiarity with chemical inventory systems and SDS management.

Ability to train others on procedures and environmental responsibilities.
