Northern Lights School of Dance is seeking a dedicated and experienced Dance Instructor to join our non-profit dance school in Whitehorse, Yukon.
The Dance Instructor will plan and teach group and individual dance sessions for ages 2-18, while ensuring an enjoyable, engaging, and safe environment.
The ideal candidate is:
-an experienced teacher who can mentor and inspire students to reach their mental, social, physical, and creative potential;
-proficient in at least one of Jazz, Ballet, Broadway, Street Styles, and Contemporary
-adventurous and willing to grow, develop, and become part of a strong, creative northern community.
Wage: $40 to $55 per hour
Hours: 10 to 20 hours of instruction per week, with additional hours for choreography and administration.
Duration: We are recruiting for the 2026-27 school year (September to May). An earlier start date is possible for an individual aged 30 or under who is interested in teaching summer camps. This posting will be open until filled.
Responsibilities
•Plan and conduct dance lessons that are engaging, informative, and fun for all participants
•Teach and encourage students and provide feedback on their performance
•Assess students’ skills to determine their level and potential
•Design and choreograph individual and group routines for various dance styles
•Maintain a safe and clean environment
•Organize dance recitals and productions in collaboration with the instructional team
•Stay updated with the trends and techniques in dance
•Collaborate with other instructors and school staff and other arts organizations
Qualifications
•3 years’ proven work experience as a dance instructor for ages 5-18
•Proficiency and performance experience in our offered dance styles, and the ability to demonstrate them
•Proven experience in choreography for various dance styles
•R.A.D. Registered Teacher status, or other dance teacher certification is an asset
