Job Title: Utility Construction Cost Estimator

Responsibilities:

Estimating: Create precise and timely cost estimates for a variety of construction projects, including electric distribution, transmission, gas distribution, vegetation management, traffic control, civil construction, and right-of-way services. Review project plans and specifications to assess material, labor, and equipment needs, and utilize estimating software to generate comprehensive estimates and proposals.

Bid Management: Ensure compliance with client specifications and company standards by reviewing bid documents and contract requirements. Work collaboratively with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather competitive bid pricing, and prepare thorough bid packages in line with project deadlines.

Value Engineering: Discover and implement value engineering opportunities that reduce project costs while maintaining quality. Collaborate with project teams to establish cost-saving strategies.

Risk Assessment: Analyze project risks and devise contingency plans to address uncertainties. Identify potential cost implications and develop mitigation strategies to safeguard project profitability.

Client Interaction: Engage in client meetings and presentations to explain project estimates, proposals, and value engineering initiatives. Address any client concerns around project costs and pricing.

Documentation: Keep meticulous records of estimating activities, including cost estimates, bid documents, and correspondence. Assist in creating project budgets and financial reports as required.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a construction-related field or equivalent practical experience.

Demonstrated experience as an estimator in the construction sector, ideally within power and pipeline utility construction.

In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and costs across various scopes of work.

Ability to use estimating software and tools such as MS Excel, Bluebeam, HCSS, or similar.

Exceptional analytical and mathematical abilities with a keen eye for detail.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with teams and stakeholders.

Capable of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced atmosphere.

Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and best practices in construction estimating.

Certification in estimating, such as Certified Professional Estimator, is a plus.
