Work Arrangement:

This internship is offered in a hybrid format. The chosen intern is expected to report to the office up to three times per week or as determined by the team.

About the Team:

The Sensor Encoder team is at the forefront of innovation in AI for autonomous vehicles, focusing specifically on encoders for camera, lidar, and radar. Our collaborative group of researchers and engineers is dedicated to tackling the complex challenges related to autonomy and machine learning in sensor data processing.

About the Role:

As an intern on the sensor encoder team, you will engage in groundbreaking projects that advance vehicle autonomy. You will develop algorithms and models that influence the future of self-driving technology. This internship offers you the opportunity to work with real-world AI/ML systems, collaborate alongside leading experts, and benefit from mentorship tailored to enhance your skills in the autonomous vehicle industry.

Your Responsibilities Include:

Leading research and prototyping of advanced machine learning methods, including foundation models, vision-language architectures, and self-supervised learning.

Prototyping ML models to enhance perception, prediction, or decision-making capabilities for autonomous driving.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams that include research, robotics, and systems engineering.

Participating in technical discussions to share insights and working towards publishing your results.

Required Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in or pursuing a Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a related field.

Deep understanding of modern machine learning techniques, particularly deep learning architectures (e.g., transformers, generative models, multimodal learning).

Proficient in Python and ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.

Research experience in AI/ML, as demonstrated through coursework, academic projects, or publications.

Strong problem-solving abilities and a collaborative mindset.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate cross-functionally.

Able to commit to full-time work, 40 hours per week.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with autonomous vehicles or advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Experience working with large-scale datasets and training ML models in high-performance computing environments.

Intent to return to your degree program post-internship/co-op.

A proven track record of significant achievements, such as grants, fellowships, patents, or first-authored publications in leading conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML).

Demonstrated experience and motivation in solving analytical problems with quantitative methods.

Expected graduation between December 2026 and June 2027.

Compensation:

The monthly salary for this role is $13,100.

GM will also provide a one-time taxable stipend to eligible students selected for the 2026 Student Program.
