Structural Engineer

Performing structural design calculations, developing design documents for diverse projects at all stages from conceptual design to final construction drawings, performing structural analysis and assessment, submittal & shop drawings review, construction inspections, providing construction support and developing construction cost estimates.

Project manager for several design projects leading a multidisciplinary team of engineers, architects, designers and drafters.

Structural lead for numerous design projects.

Write-up of technical documents including construction specifications, Basis of Design, Construction Scope of Work, inspection and structural evaluation reports.

Structural design work includes single and multi-story structural steel and reinforced concrete steel buildings, HVAC and mechanical equipment platforms, liquid storage tank foundations, mechanical and equipment mezzanines, pipe racks, pipe supports and seismic restraints, structural retrofits for compliance with current seismic and wind load code requirements.

Construction Inspection Engineer

Daily inspections of various commercial construction projects including shopping centers and multistory parking and office buildings with an excess of 100,000 sf.

Preparing monthly inspection reports, revising contractor’s end-of-the month certifications, attending weekly project meetings on behalf of the owner, meeting with consultants during the planning and preliminary design phases of new commercial projects.

Coordinating repair work to existing commercial facilities with contractors.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Fully bilingual (English-Spanish), ability to write technical reports and documents.

Professional Engineer registration in Puerto Rico. Able to obtain license in in most U.S. states through reciprocity or committee.

Proficiency with computer software including AutoCAD, ETABS, SAFE, ENERCALC, Descon suite, CONSPAN, and Microsoft Office. Experience using and STAAD Pro, SAP2000 and Revit.

Good business sense including ability to estimate engineering fees and writing business proposals.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and enjoy direct interaction with clients.

Performed research during undergrad and grad school studies in high performance and ultra-light weight concrete and fiber reinforced plastics for use as concrete reinforcement.

Proficiency with latest building and structural design codes and guidelines including UBC-97, IBC, ASCE, AISC LRFD and ASD, ACI-318, and FM Global loss prevention data sheets.

Experience with design work for high seismic zones and high wind prone regions and LEED projects.

Able to work under pressure, strong believer in team effort and teamwork.

Experience speaking in public and giving lectures to large audiences.
