Microbiology and Immunology

Project Management : Isolation and characterization of calcium oxalate (Kidney stone) degrading Psuedomonas and isolating the concerned Plasmid and transferring to E.coli.

Description

Goal: To develop a living microbe as a therapeutic agent for kidney stone since it can circumvent the problems of pain, expense, need for skilled hands and repetitive administration.

Calcium oxolate (kidney stone) degrading microorganisms were isolated from the urinary soil sample and identified as Pseudomonas putida.

Using planting techniques and in half strength nutrient medium Pseudomonas putida has been isolated and characterized and checked for its ability to degrade calcium oxalate.

The plasmid prone character was confirmed and since Pseudomonas is pathogenic it is impossible to use it for therapeutic purposes.

Plasmid trasformed to non-pathogenic intestinal noraml flora E.coli, calcium oxalate degradation was confirmed further and trails have to be undertaken to develop it as therapeuitc agents.
