Lead Graphic Artist ( 1.4 yrs at BLH and 2 yrs at UNI )

Being new to the company, and acting as the lead signmaker for a large store, I was put to the test right from the start. A brief lesson on the programs and the daily routine was all it took before I quickly grasped every aspect of the job. Which was a lot. I learned the handwriting style and how to use liquid chalk markers to illustrate and highlight specials all over the 9 departments throughout the store. I processed all sign requests in a rapid, usually same day turnover rate. Working closely with the store marketing team leader, I designed collateral for events, both in store and off site, as well as advertisements for local print publications. All signage maintained company design standards while infusing a style unique to the store. Style decisions were based on a close relationship with the community and the history of the area. It was also my responsibility to oversee the assistant signmaker and act as a sort of creative director for the marketing team.

I gained knowledge of how a daily newspaper operates. I use Quark Xpress & Adobe CS2 to create b&w as well as full process color ads for realtors and retail businesses. It is a fast paced team environment where priority management skills are essential.

I have had exposure to the operations of a small design studio. Some of my responsibilities have been the creation of logo concepts, packaging ideas, and brochures. I participated in the design of a self-promotional mailer and a highly successful enrollment kit for an area vocational school. I had the primary responsibility for designing a local tourist guide.
