I have started my career from A. M. Shaikh Homoeopathic Medical College, Belgaum, and served as a Librarian from 1989 to 1992. There after I moved to Gujarat for better prospects and joined U. P. L Rotary Library at G. I. D. C Ankleshwar. Presently working as Sr. Librarian in Birla Copper, a unit of Hindalco Industries Ltd, a World Class Manufacturing company and one of the flagship companies of Adiya Birla Group for the last 14 years. With this my total experience is 21 years. The company has secured the distinguished awards like GREENTECH AWARD by GREENTECH, New Delhi both Gold and silver and on Safety also for consecutive two years 2009 an 2010. It is certified by ISO 9001 for Quality and ISO 14001 for Environment & OHSAS 18001 Health & Safety Standards. As a librarian I am maintaining the Central Technical Library with all skills. All the plant related Basic Engineering Documents, Operation Manuals, standard and specifications, technical books and national and international periodicals both hard and soft copies where ever possible are being procured and maintained and the concerned information is being retrieved & disseminated to the concerned executives and engineers as and when required. Being a first Class Post Graduate ( M.L.I.Sc) in Library & Information Science with Second Rank to the University, and varied experience, I have added skills of computerization of Library management and services of all types. For instance, created an online section at our B C K M (Birla Copper Knowledge Management) where in the online magazines viz., Metal Bulletin, C.R.U, BROOK HUNT, Daily online articles from H B R, JOM – Journal Of Metals, Fertilizer Week, Industrial Products Finder, Fortune On-line magazine, Open Sources through Indian Library Association where users can read all these right sitting at their desktops. My basic degree is B.Com and did M.A. also which can help shoulder any additional jobs in addition to Library responsibility.

As a Librarian I am responsible to maintain, preserve, and disseminate the technical information required by the executives, and all the Engineers working across the plant. The library collection comprises of the documents related to the technologies imported for the manufacturing of Copper, the main product and the allied products like fertilizers, Gold, Silver, Oxygen , Power, and the refineries, Fly Ash, Slag Benefication, Bismuth recovery, Jetty etc. The list of books & I S Codes are also made available online for convenience of our readers. All the employees at our other locations say, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Baroda and Mumbai also can read these magazines online as the Central Library is networked to all these offices.
I have participated in various National and regional level Library Conferences, seminars & conventions and also contributed and presented the papers on different subject of Library Science. The list is enclosed here with for your kind perusal please.
I am also a part of W C M – World Class Manufacturing Cell in the company which is taking care of the Work Environment, Asset Managemet, Customer and Orientation, Supply Chain Management, People Management, Quality Management, Information and Systems & Innovation and Technology which are the main dimensions of W C M model for for manufacturing excellence.
I am pursuing PhD on the title “USE OF ELECTRONIC INFORMATION RESOURCES IN SOME SELECTED ENGINEERING CORPORATE SECTORS : AN ANALYTICAL STUDY WITH REFERENCE TO GUJARAT STATE” under the guidance of Dr. B. D Kumbar, Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, Karnatak University Dharwad since last two years. Submitted Fourth term Progress Report on 30the May, 2011.

To keep up - to - date its employees as also to assist all the functional areas, Birla Copper has set up a Central Technical Library right from its inception i.e. in1996. The library collection comprises books, periodicals, Standards and Specifications of various countries, Basic Engineering documents, Operation & Maintenance Manuals, Annual reports of various units other companies. The library is fully computerized through an in house integrated library management module, which has been developed by the systems department with necessary inputs from the librarian. The whole collection including the functional rules have been up loaded on to the module and up dated from time to time so as to help the employees to view the same right sitting at their desktops. The library users can search their interested documents of various types in a short time and visit the library both for reference and for taking home the books and periodicals of their interest. The on line magazines that are received have been made available in the module so as to enable the users to access them as per their convenience. Readers can send their suggestion to procure

books, periodicals through email facility as the library has been hooked to all the departments within the complex and also to the corporate and branch offices situated at various locations out side the complex. Users can also surf the net for their technical information in the library during general working hours.

Information is the modern currency of business. To make this happen Birla Copper has developed a separate Knowledge Management Portal to provide an online repository of information accessible to all employees of the organization, where in he/she browse and share sustaining information pertaining to self and of common interests to fellow employees. The portal acts as a virtual library to the employees of Birla Copper to meet their technical and business related information both within the complex and across the group.
