Results oriented, multi-disciplined polymer research scientist, with multi-cultural experience gained from several assignments in Europe and Asia. Focused and self starter on creative implementation of ideas. Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to interact multiple levels of the organization with emphasis on teams. Fluent in English, Italian, 3 Indian languages and basic in German language.
Experience
Researcher (Innovation Department), 10/2008 - present.
IVM Chemicals srl, Milano, Italy.
Responsible for developing new low cost Nano technology based polymeric coatings for wooden surfaces which are applicable to other surfaces as well. Developed new formulations based on Nano particle technology, tested the formulations using different application techniques and brought formulations to pilot scale up level. Initiated extensive interaction with marketing department, raw material and additive suppliers and outside technical institute. Well versed with various solvent-borne and water-borne coating process and relevant characterization techniques.
Successfully work on projects and bring products (Nanotechnology based) at commercial level: solvent borne acrylic resin based UV coatings to improve the scratch resistance (Parquet Floor application) and to enhance surface hardness of solvent-borne high gloss clear and pigmented Polyurethane coatings and 2K PU water based coatings.
Established an innovation lab from scratch by interacting with vendors and getting the equipments.
Post-Doctoral Fellow, 02/2006-09/2008.
Dipartimento di Scienze Chimiche, University of Catania, Catania, Italy.
“Surface modification and characterization of Polymeric materials using low energy ion irradiation for enhanced adhesion and adsorption.”
Prepared various thin polymer films using spin coating technology and irradiated using low energy ion beams (He+, Ar+ and Kr+) and UVO treatment. Performed hands on characterization of the thin films using very sophisticated surface characterization techniques (AFM, XPS, TofSIMS, water contact angle, surface free energy and FTIR) The polymers studied were (poly ethylene terephthalate, poly hydroxyl methyl silaxone, polystyrene colloidal Nano particles) of industrial Importance.
Provided hands on help in setting up the plasma irradiation machine from the scratch.
Published two papers.
Pre-University Teacher, 03/2003-11/2003.
Worked as a pre-university teacher in a private school for Physics on experimental design and evaluated performance of high school students in practical lab.
Teacher, 08/1998-08/1999.
Empowered students of many private schools in Math and Science with independent coaching and help them to clear the exams.
Management Trainee, 06/1997-09/1997.
Cipla Pharmaceuticals, Vadodara.
Skills
Instruments
Hands on experience with characterization techniques : Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Water contact angle, Optical Microscope, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), UVO cleaner, Differential Scanning calorimetry, Thermo gravimetric Analysis, Vickers’ Micro hardness tester and LCR meter. Polymer thin film (200-500nm) preparation for ion beam irradiation by using spin coating on Silicon substrate and Nano particle of polymer (200-400nm) on Silicon substrate by dewetting and spin coating method.
For Industrial application polymer films prepared on wooden surface by using Spray coating, Roller coating and Curtain coating technology and cured by UV- radiation curing technology. Polymers films tested for chemical resistance and mechanical property.
