ITW Food Equipment Group is a $2 billion dollar division of Illinois Tool Works, a $16 billion dollar conglomerate out of Glenview, Illinois. ITW FEG manufactures commercial food equipment for the Food Service and Food Retail markets and provides a complete in-house Service organization.

Group Controller: (2006 to 2011)

Financial responsibility for all of North America with roughly one billion in sales. Responsible for 15 Unit Controllers across the country and for Information Systems, Facilities, Transportation and Warehousing for North America. Directly managed 85 people.

• Supported 10 successful acquisitions, ranging from $10 million to $150 million, that resulted in improved top line and bottom line performance for the division.

• Led the major transition from mainframe legacy systems (25 years) to an ERP environment for roughly $800 million in business. Expect roughly $15 million in savings.

• Managed through the 2009 downturn in the economy with 17 North American restructuring projects resulting in $15 to $20 million in savings. While revenues and profits were down ROS% stayed flat.

• Downsized the North American Administrative support group by 30 people resulting in $2 million in savings.

• Led the transition from channel based structure (Food Retail / Food Service) to product divisions (Refrigeration, Cooking, Food Machines etc.) which resulted in greater focus and improved financial performance. Put 80% of the Controllers in their respective positions.

• Heavily involved with the ITW Tool Box initiatives such as 80/20, In-lining, MRD, PLS and USa.

• Significant amount of time spent on strategic or long range planning.

HOBART CORPORATION (Acquired by Illinois Tool Works), Troy, Ohio 1984 to 2006

Division Controller, Hobart Food Service: 1996 to 2006

Complete financial responsibility for the division which consisted of multiple product lines and manufacturing locations serving restaurants, hotels, schools, healthcare and government end user segments. Responsible for Credit & Collection, IT, Accounting and Customer Service with a total staff of 125.

• Key member of the group that doubled income and ROS over several years. Also obtained significant improvements in working capital.

• One of the architects behind the Hobart / Traulsen refrigeration consolidation that turned a low margin business into one of the highest margin businesses in North America.

• Worked closely with the President on sales / marketing programs such as rebates, pricing and promotions. Completely revamped a $30 million rebate program from “growth only” to functional / growth resulting in higher sales.

• Supported the North American Manufacturing Strategy that resulted in several plant closings, plant realignment and the building of new plants.

• Implemented direct costing vs. fully absorbed standard costing models.

Manager Financial Planning and Analysis, Refrigeration/Bakery/Cooking: 1991 to 1996

Roughly a $70 million business unit. Responsible for turning a refrigeration business losing money into a profitable and healthy unit. Successfully integrated relatively new acquisitions in the Cooking and Bakery space.

Plant Accounting Manager, Troy Plant 27: 1989 to 1991

Responsible for cost accounting, inventory, internal controls, capital projects and financial reporting & analysis. Facility produced around $80 million in revenue.

Supervisor General Accounting: 1986 to 1989

Responsible for the corporate financial close, all reserve/liability analysis and primary contact for external auditors.

Financial Analyst: 1984 to 1986

Responsible for P&L analysis for sales, marketing and distribution departments and supervising sales invoicing which included 23 people.
