PROFILE Louis Coons is an expert Engineering Inspection Supervisor. Over his 33-year career with the City of Fort Lauderdale, he has played an integral role in the construction and inspection of a variety of complex municipal public works projects, such as bridges, buildings, stadiums and treatment plants. Louis was instrumental in ensuring the con-formity of construction with approved plans and specifications. An accomplished man-ager and tactical supervisor, he has been commended by the City of Fort Lauderdale mul-tiple times for his equitable and budget-conscious approach to public works projects.

EXPERIENCE ENGINEERING INSPECTION SUPERVISOR

City of Fort Lauderdale, FL 2001-2010

Supervised over 93 public works projects with a combined budget of over $66 million. Projects included water main replacements, sewer main replacements, pump station re-placements, gravity sewer installations, hardscape renovations, and I&I projects. Re-sponsible for coordinating the scheduling, payment, and progress reporting of utility companies and contractors. A significant portion of these construction projects came in under budget by 2-5%.

DISTRIBUTION AND COLLECTION SUPERVISOR

City of Fort Lauderdale, FL 1994-2001

Point-person for day-to-day operations of the sanitary and water infrastructure of the City of Fort Lauderdale. Managed a team of 23 employees, including night operations relat-ing to water and sewer complaints. On-call 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies such as water main breaks, broken fire hydrants, sinkholes, and interruptions in sewer pumping operations.

PUBLIC WORKS FOREMAN - STREET OPERATIONS

City of Fort Lauderdale, FL 1992-1994

Supervised 11 municipal maintenance workers to complete installation and maintenance projects relating to public streets and highways in accordance with established municipal policies. Projects included utility patchwork, runway swale work, parking lot installa-tions, handicapped access installations and pothole repairs.

UTILITY SERVICE WORKER

City of Fort Lauderdale, FL 1977-1992

Supervised and participated in the location, installation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution systems, plumbing, and pipe fitting practices. Projects included: installation of water meters from 2’’ to 54’’, water main installations, small service line installations, and fire hydrant installations. Location and repair of leaks; valve cleaning and repair; street resurfacing, and other technical tasks as assigned.
