IEM – Durham, NC April 11– May 12

IEM is an Emergency Management company. My responsibilites were to provide maps of all the hazards of the areas of interest. Including but not limited to earthquakes, HAZMAT chemicals, flooding, transportation and much more. The mapping was of a highly technical nature working with many different companies and government contracts. In order to work on the government contracts I was assigned a FEMA badge which required a detailed background check. I used Arc Map 10 in order to create the maps and I understand database structure very well.

State of North Carolina- (Contracted through The Employment Solution) Nov 10 – April 11

I am the GIS Lead Analyst responsible for assisting project managers with geospatial data processing, documentation, metadata analyzing and project implementation in the Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (CGIA), on a statewide aerial imagery project, funded by the 911 Commission. My responsibilities also includes overseeing and training two employees, and for keeping track of completeness of the project and maintaining the progress of the project.

Michael Baker, Jr - Alexandria, VA (Contractor through Aerotec)

I assisted in the production mapping of FEMA flood maps. I used Arc 8.0 to update geofeatures and databases to reflect the changes due to the new flood studies. Much of my work was creating new areas, including the initial framework and elevation lines of the given areas.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Silver Spring, MD

I reviewed incoming hydrographic surveys and other new nautical data for inclusion on all NOAA charting products. I archived research in support of the Office of the General Counsel, US Department of Commerce, and performed occasional field operations aboard the NOAA hydrographic survey vessels.

I created GIS thematic project maps using ESRI and Caliper GIS software. Using Trimble GPS receivers I collected field data than transferred and corrected the data with GPS Pathfinder, it was than exported to a shapefile format for use in multiple databases. I trained other MDOT employees how to use GIS software and GPS receivers. I took lead on a State Parks road co-departmental project I worked with project staff at the Center for Geographic Information (CGI) and the Department of Natural Resources (MDNR).

GIS Technician - Student, Forestry, Mineral, & Fire Management Jan 02 - Nov 03

Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR), Lansing, MI

I produced thematic maps of the forest stands of the Michigan state parks from collected data. I trace digitized geofeatures against ortho photographs to create the finished product. Creation of shapefiles, heads up digitizing, data management, and quality assurance was a few of the key areas of focus.
