Adult inpatient behavioral health hospital for individuals experiencing mental health and substance abuse issues. This is an interim assignment as a consultant with the initial responsibility to open the hospital by obtaining JCAHO accreditation and licensing by the Ohio Department of Mental Health. Bed capacity is 25 initially and will increase to 40 within 12 months. Responsible to recruit support, ancillary, professional and medical staff. Provide oversight and leadership supervision to department heads and staff. Developed and implemented the strategic plan for opening the facility on schedule and for increasing bed capacity.

Mercer Health System Coldwater, Ohio – November 2010 – November 2011

Acute care community hospital organization providing a full range of inpatient and outpatient programs, employed physicians, advanced practitioners, home health, durable medical equipment and rehabilitation services with multiple locations. (My departure was to due to receiving an improved career opportunity and the fact that I was not in a position to help resolve the serious financial problems that the hospital faced)

Key Challenges: Administrator of all hospital and contract physician practices as well as home health and DME. Recruited family care and specialist physicians in a hospital employed model; negotiated contract terms; improved financial performance of the employed physician group and home health department. Design the strategies to implement various components of healthcare reform including Medical Home Model and Clinical Integration. Implemented Stage 1 meaningful use of the EMR system to produce $100,000 in revenue for the hospital. Prepared for and passed the JCAHO accreditation survey.

Supervised the Director of Finance, VP of Human Resources and VP of Risk Management. • Reduced debt position from $2.4 million in July 2008 to $900,000 by March 2010
